It's in a downward spiral... and this new idea of tolerance has made it even worse.

I feel that this new idea of tolerance is a great opportunity for emerging believers of Christianity to really claim lost ground in sharing Jesus to a fallen world. We will soon live in a culture that does not hide its iniquities, and will be easily identifiable, whereas in the past all sins were hidden. If Christians soon realize that the religion they follow has lost America and now requires the original meaning be brought back to view, we may yet see a revival like never before.
We are losing, but have not lost. We just need a new tactic.

I'm not so sure. The tolerance idea seems to give up authority for what's right and wrong to whoever has the most power (whether in teh form of money, popularity, or something else). The one in power can claim no moral responsibility, while sacking someone else with the only possible sin to commit: intolerance.

The thing about tolerance that frustrates me is that most of the people who are all for tolerance aren't very tolerant of people who are intolerant. Also the meaning of tolerance seems to have changed in the last few years, it used to mean "I respect your beliefs and won't put them down even though I dissagree with them." The new meaning seems to be "I don't share the same beliefs you do but thats ok, both are right after all." I prefer the older meaning.

I also believe that generally Christians are too arrogant in thinking they are the only option without being able to argue correctly against someone with opposing views. It seems like many Christians would rather stay ignorant about other issues and argue illogically, rather than look at something new.

The only option being the only religion that can lead us to God, or Heaven.

Heh heh.. forgot about this topic. But Jesus himself states that Christianity is the only way to God.

Actually he says he is the only way to the father.... It's tremendously difficult to reach a postmodern culture by stating that though, and is why I posted this: I also believe that generally Christians are too arrogant in thinking they are the only option without being able to argue correctly against someone with opposing views. It seems like many Christians would rather stay ignorant about other issues and argue illogically, rather than look at something new.

yeah... And I see your point with him being the only way to the Father. But if someone wants to seek out "truth" or "enlightenment" they'd best know who it comes from and start out at the basic stage. In Proverbs it states, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." So we should become as educated as possible, but we should in no way back down on the doctrine of Christ being the only way to the Father and the Father being our goal.

I'm not stating that, just that ignorant Christians shouldn't be arguing their point as it doesn't help anything.

i've seen something very close to /\ degree myself.
i'm having trouble navigating this fourm so this looks likes the best place to post a speach Ben Stein said that others might have heard already. But i beleive the words of insight are priceless. and i don't care if to some it seems redundant
