I was actually going to start a new topic tonight. I'm sorry Brian, we corrupted your topic. Here's a topic that I talked to Lord of the Squishies about, I don't know if you want to discuss it or not. Should prison be punishmeant, or rehabilitation? I'll post my response after you do.

that wasn't debating. That was arguing, which doesn't have to be in politics. Plus what you were arguing about wasn't something political. But it's really quite alright, seeing as how this isn't my message board and I am not an administrator.
Anyways, prison should be punishment in my opinion. However, many of the things we send people to prison for nowadays should be legal anyways, and therefore we wouldn't have to be even thinking about spending more money to rehabilitate them. Private businesses have rehabilitation clinics and people should be responsible for going to them by themselves. Prison should only be used for people murdering other people or committing crimes which they cannot make ammends for through a monetary process such as sexual crimes, or other "extreme" crimes.

I dunno... It's kinda hard to take a stance right out of the Bible on this topic since back then they'd stone you for stealing. I myself don't think prisons have ever been a great idea. They usually end up as inhumane or ineffective. They always drain money from those who didn't do anything wrong as well. But then that leaves us between capital punishment and a slap on the hand, both of which are not good options.

The reason why I say that there's gotta be a way to rehabilitate prisoners, is becasue my mom goes into the prison for bible study with women. And it seems the majority of people that end up in there are people who take drugs and stuff. In prisons there are no rehabilitation programs as far as I am concerned, and these people get out, and they can't stay away from the stuff and end up back in there. I also think that prisons should serve as punishment. However I have heard from Foxs News(only real news source I have) that prisoners aren't really getting punishment. Men get to work out in the gym, get access to inappropriate magazines, and probably manage to get drugs. Of what I've heard is that the only thing you have to worry about in prison is people liking you. Well, there's my opinion. Prisons should rehabilitate those who have drug problems, otherwise it sounds like they're trying to make them come back. As far as legalizing drugs, I've heard the theory and I'm not quite sure. I mean it certaintly seems like drugs have a lot more health effects than alcohol, making this theory not work. So I may have not presented my opinion very well, or sounded kinda stupid, but I stayed serious for decent amount of time.

I don't now very much about this subject but the rehab thing that Rachel said makes some sense. I would like to find out more about this subject.

I don't think we always have to, nor should we always look to the Bible to find all the right answers. Sometimes things work better than what the Bible may say... which isn't saying the Bible is wrong either...
If prisons are going to rehabilitate people, who is going to pay for it and what time of program are you going to use?
If prisons are going to punish, how do you determine the type of punishment someone deserves?

Telcontar said: "nor should we always look to the Bible to find the right answers."
This may be true, but there are very few things that the inspired Word of the Creator of the Universe does not reveal to us his opinion on.
That said, you can't look to the Old Testament for answers many of the social problems we have today. (for instance, if your son talks back to you, you probably shouldn't stone him....)

I agree with Billy's stand that the Bible should always be the primary source of information. After all the Bible isn't just a two-thousand year old book. It's the inspired word of God through which he communicates to us and reveals things to us. God is always there and "The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4:12-13 Also "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8

I absolutely agree with you.
But, since there are people like Telcontar in America, and in order to make a something called a discussion, what right do we have to force OUR religon on them? Why not Islam? Judaism? And/or other eastern religons? Or did you answer this already? Sorry if you did answer, rather silly me. ;D

I don't think we did but it is a question that is constantly asked. My stand is this. Christianity is the truth whether or not anyone wants to believe it. As long as it's in the Bible I will continue to stand by it and believe that everyone should and to make it so to the best of my ability. I'll never compromise on God's commands just because it's unpopular. Not that I'm perfect but I'll serve God to the best of my ability. It's the only way I could ever live with myself.
